When it comes to kid-friendly activities, Richmond, KY, has tons of family fun to offer. Walk through a working fort, splash around at a waterpark, experience farm life, hike, fish, boat, and play mini-golf on a state-of-the-art 18-hole course.

1. Discover the Fort Boonesborough and Experience Nature

Take a trip to Fort Boonesborough State Park and walk through the original fort site where Daniel Boone and his men established Kentucky’s second settlement in 1775. The fort has been reconstructed and is now a working fort complete with 18th-century craft demonstrations by costumed historians. You will learn more about the families who lived and worked along the river at the museum.

In addition to finding out more about what life was like for Kentucky’s pioneers, you and the kids can go hiking, boating, and fishing for bass, bluegill, and catfish in the Kentucky River, and cool down in the Olympic-sized swimming pool that has a misty fountain and a children’s area. If you want to take the kids camping, there are primitive campsites and a campground on the river with electricity and water hookups.

2. Splash and Slide at the Aquatic Center

Paradise Cove Aquatic Center is the ultimate destination to escape the summer heat. Kids have a whale of a time splashing around in the zero-depth entry pool, diving off the diving boards, and running through the water sprayers. The pool has a kiddie play structure, a net climb, a whirlpool, and a dumping bucket, and the little ones have their own shallow pool and water slide.

Thrill-seekers can slide down 40-foot spiral and straight chute slides and climb the aqua rock climbing wall. There is plenty of shade under the shelters and lounge chairs where you can relax while your kids splash around in the water. The pool is ADA accessible, and there are restroom facilities and a concession stand. Paradise Cove Aquatic Center is at 274 Lake Reba Drive in Richmond.

3. Enjoy a Day on a Farm

Take the kids to experience farm life at Baldwin Farms, where they can run around freely, watch goats climb, hens lay eggs, and meet other farm animals. Find the best pumpkin in the 10-acre pumpkin patch, enjoy hay jumps and pony rides. Purchase sun-raised farm-fresh produce, honey, apple butter, Amish jams, salsas, and pickles at Kelly House Market and Co-Co House, and if the kids are hungry, they have mouthwatering treats.

There are shelters with picnic tables where you and your family can enjoy the farm fare or your own snacks. This is also a great venue for your kid’s next birthday party. Baldwin Farms at 1113 Tates Creek Road. Just follow the signs to the farm.
