The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is an all-new model from Ford. It's an all-electric pickup truck that will be offered in at least four trim levels. The four announced trims are Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. The exterior equipment is likely to mimic what is offered on the recently redesigned gas-powered truck line. You'll find an oversized front grille with aggressive lighting, pre-wired trailer connections, and large wheels. Exterior options include fog lights and upgraded lighting, in-bed lighting, and power running boards.

The 2022 F-150 Lightning comes standard with two electric motors and a battery pack that provides power. With the standard range battery, the dual motors put out a combined output of 426 horsepower. Stepping up to the extended range battery takes the combined output to 563 horsepower. With either battery, the truck can put out up to 775 pound-feet of torque. According to chatter in the industry, Ford may offer a bed-mounted range extender motor that would kick in to charge the battery if the driver couldn't get to a charging station.

The cabin of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is similar to the cabin of the gas-powered model. It should be available in both the regular, two-door cab and SuperCab, which has two regular-sized doors and two rear half-sized doors. Standard tech equipment includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a 12-inch touch screen, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and integrated navigation. Ford's upgraded SYNC 4 infotainment system also comes standard across all trim levels. If you choose one of the higher trims, you can get your cabin equipped with a larger 15-inch touch screen and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Although it's an electric truck, the F-150 Lightning doesn't disappoint when it comes to performance and capabilities. In 2019, Ford launched a marketing campaign to prove that the truck could tow a line of train cars loaded with F-150 pickup trucks that weighed in at a million pounds, although the official capacity of this model is 10,000 pounds. The payload capacity tops out at 2,000 pounds.

Ford reports that the standard range battery delivers a driving range of up to 230 miles on a charge, while the extended range can drive up to 300 miles on one charge. This truck can also serve as a backup generator, according to Ford. When fully charged, this model could provide up to three days of electricity based on the average household usage.

Every F-150 Lightning truck comes equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of active safety features designed to protect the driver and passengers. The suite bundles pre-collision assist, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and intelligent adaptive cruise control.

This truck will also be available with the new BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving mode, which can take the stress out of long drives. When the truck is in this mode, the system takes over the steering, braking, and acceleration. It also includes cameras to monitor the driver to ensure they are still seated in the driver's seat and paying attention.
